i would recommend not using more than a drop or 2 of … i just got this so will update if anything changes. it is small but the water lasted a long time. i would recommend not using more than a drop or 2 of oil at first because it produced an amazingly strong scent. i like to run it with the light on because the soft colors change very gradually and are almost hypnotic. it does shut off when out of water
